One of the perks of being the legendary Joe Flizzow is that he can drop a heater anytime he feels like it. His latest single, ‘501,’ plays out like the opening chapter of an action blockbuster with The President cast as the unbreakable hero.
The video kicks off with a battered and bloodied Joe on his knees, moments away from execution. A gun is pointed at his head and the tension is thick until a mysterious sniper takes out both gunmen in a split second. As Joe scans the shadows to see who saved him, he keeps rapping over a SonaOne production that begins as a minimal Hip Hop beat before transforming into a smooth, funky House groove.
Joe then fights his way through the warehouse in a gritty, Oldboy-style hallway brawl, mowing through thugs as he searches for an escape. Just as a masked enforcer and his gang corner him, the shooter from earlier reappears. They break out together, and only then do we see the twist: Joe’s guardian angel is a stunning femme fatale. The gang catches up, fists are raised, and—boom—the screen cuts to black with a “to be continued.”
Joe Flizzow has seen every corner of the game, and he knows exactly how to give fans what they crave. ‘501’ is all killer, no filler. It’s energetic, stylish, and perfectly set up for a sequel.
