Jay Park returns to R&B after 8-year hiatus with THE ONE YOU WANTED
The king’s new 20-cut album is filled with guest stars like Ty Dolla $ign, YG & P-Lo
Jay Park has done it all. He’s been groundbreaking in the Asian music industry by not only putting out music but also building superstars with his companies AOMG and H1ghr Music. He fronts his third label now, MORE VISION, which put out his latest R&B album, THE ONE YOU WANTED on October 8, and he’s bringing Won Soju to the world. He was even number one on the first LiFTED 50 list.
In his intro to the album, Jay says that while he is a business, man, he takes the most pride in the music he makes. In 2016, he released an R&B album, Everything You Wanted. Since that album was so well-received, he’s been promising a new one and it’s finally here.
THE ONE YOU WANTED is dense with 20 tracks, but streaming is all about running up those numbers. He has collabs with dope US artists like Ty Dolla $ign, YG, and P-Lo, as well as a lot of Asian talent DUT2, Zion T., IU, and CHUNG HA.
The album is R&B through and through, with the only rapping coming from the featured artists. The first single and video, ‘Gimmie a Minute’ with CHUNG HA is about as perfectly R&B as it gets. There’s dancing on parking garage rooftops and CGI turntables. Jay even brings back the dance break, where there is no singing and just the part for the dancers to go off in.
If you love R&B, one of the hottest genres in the world right now, Jay Park’s THE ONE YOU WANTED is the one for you.
