Coachella goes all in on diversity with 2023 line-up

All 3 headliners - BLACKPINK, Bad Bunny & Frank Ocean - are people of color

In 2019, BLACKPINK live-streamed into Coachella’s dance-centric Sahara Tent. Not only did the K-pop/K-hop group buzz into one of the biggest and most influential music festivals in the world, but they also were streaming on the screens at Times Square at the same time.

In that same year, a newcomer to the Latin Trap and Hip Hop scene played in the mid-afternoon on the runup to Adriana Grande’s headlining set. Bad Bunny, who is the only artist to get more love on Spotify than Drake, impressed the masses and has gone on to dominate the charts ever since.

Frank Ocean, a mostly-reclusive R&B singer with a legion of fans waiting for anything new, hasn’t performed since 2019. Fans are hoping that his headline slot at Coachella with BLACKPINK and Bad Bunny, will bring about new music.

Coachella 2023 lineup

The lineup for Coachella was announced on January 10 and it’s the first time that there is an all-female K-Pop band at the coveted Saturday night slot. It’s the first time there is a Latin headliner. And it’s the first time that all three headliners are people of color. Hats off to Coachella and their crew for the diversity.

Getting past the headliners, there is a lot of fun happening with Asian artists including the magic man Jackson Wang, Korean singer Yaeji, South Korean rapper DPR Live, Taiwanese indie darlings Sunset Rollercoaster, and more. Other notable acts not to be missed are the African representatives Burna Boy and Uncle Waffles, Calvin Harris, Eric Prydz presenting HALO, and Björk.

Tickets go on sale this Friday January 13 at 11 AM PMT here.
