Singapore’s Zadon is back making music and just released his latest, a 5-track mixtape called Mr.金钱摇, which translates to Mr. Money Shake. With a name like that and a gold bar as a chain in the graphic, Zadon mirrors the many faces of an everyday person.

The first track has a nod to local culture, ‘Ah BengMeh?,’ and sounds like Indie Rock with fat drums. It’s an interesting way to start the mix with a song for those who fight to never fit in. The title track, ‘Mr.金钱摇,’ has flashes of jiggy, mid-2000s Hip Hop a la Chingy or Murphy Lee, but with an updated sound palette. Being a Mr. Money Shake can have a plethora of meanings from a streetwise joker to a nostalgic dreamer. Zadon is both and neither at the same time.

‘Okokok’ is the Trap banger that is nearly a full instrumental. ‘Golf Freestyle’ sees Zadon go very uptempo and has some sharp lyricism in it. Zadon saves the best for last as he links up with Malaysia’s Dato Maw, a favorite in underground Asian Hip Hop scenes on ‘不倒退 BDT.’ The song is slick and shows two MCs keeping it as real as possible in 2025.
