VannDa celebrates Khmer New Year with ‘Back Home [ជួបជុំ]’

Tradition, village games & a love story that comes full circle

With Cambodian New Year around the corner, celebrations are about to take over, which means family reunions, temple runs, and classic village games. Right on cue, VannDa drops ‘Back Home [ជួបជុំ],’ a festive tribute wrapped in a love story that unfolds in real time.

The video opens with VannDa rolling up on a cart pulled by two zebu cattle and setting the tone for a return to roots. The setting is Phumi Phka Trokoun, a countryside resort just outside Phnom Penh, where the New Year energy is already in full swing.

From there, it’s all tradition. Families gather as kids and adults jump into games like Leak Kanseng, the Cambodian take on Duck Duck Goose, where a Khmer scarf becomes the weapon of surprise. There’s also Beat the Pot, a piñata-style smash fest, and Tearnh Prot, Cambodia’s version of tug-of-war.

That’s where things shift. Mid-pull, VannDa gets knocked back in victory and lands in a moment straight out of a rom-com. A girl falls into him, they lock eyes, and just like that, the story begins. Coconut drinks, fireside flirting, and then she disappears as her friends whisk her away from the stranger.

VannDa eventually commandeers the mic for a song, and scans the crowd mid-performance. Then, full circle, she returns placing the Khmer scarf on him, echoing the game where it all started. Love, like the New Year, always comes back around.
