CLOT turns the iconic adidas Superstar into a dress shoe
Perfect for those who refuse to wear anything but sneakers
As the often-told story goes, Run DMC was playing a show at Madison Square Garden in 1986. At one point, the MCs told everyone to take off one shoe and put them in the air. The house lights came on and the whole crowd was waiving around adidas sneakers. Soon, the legendary group dropped into their song, ‘My adidas,’ and the crowd went crazy. That night, Run DMC closed a million-dollar sponsorship deal with adidas, who had never put that much money towards musicians.
A good deal of those shoes held up at the Garden were adidas Superstars, the iconic shoe with a rubber toe that has been a staple in Hip Hop since the beginning. Recently, CLOT redesigned the Superstar and did something that may end up being as revolutionary as that Run DMC show. They turned the Superstar into a dress shoe.
Over the past 51 years, heads have said, “F It” to society’s norms and worn high-end sneakers to formal dinners, weddings, or even court dates. While this practice is not totally accepted, a lot of sneakers now cost more than any dress shoe ever did. CLOT is combining the two, and if it catches on, this idea could change footwear for good.
CLOT has taken the Superstar, and with an understated elegance changed it into a patent-leather dress shoe. It’s Hip Hop enough, with the three stripes still on the sides and heel, that OGs will get it. It’s also fancy enough that judges might see them and give people lighter sentences because they are proper shoes to wear in court.
